The
Nyssa sylvatica has moderate water requirements, and displays a
moderate tolerance to salt and alkali soils. Has outstanding scarlet
fall color and displays a lustrous dark green color in the summer.
Pyramidal when young; opens with age; some branches are pendulous;
right angled branches are attractive in winter. Casts light shade;
good street tree if not heavily polluted; does not tolerate standing
water; honey plant for bees; fruit attracts birds.
